Portland Family Therapy, Inc.'s mission is to create new awareness, new knowledge and new possibilities. We are an agency of therapists who believe in working with our clients to maintain and improve their mental health. We work together to serve your entire family for your mental health needs in all stages of life. Our therapists believe in providing therapy services to our clients in a friendly, relaxed, and safe atmosphere. We also believe in educating our clients as we work with them to achieve the best mental state possible. 

Thomas J. Wright, PHD, LCSW and Andrea J. Wright Johnston, MA, LMFT, (father and daughter) are the therapists at Portland Family Therapy, Inc. We also co-facilitate groups with therapists who work at other agencies and private practices. Portland Family Therapy, Inc. is the new name for our expanded therapy services that are available at American Research Institute, Inc. that was incorporated in 1998. Its first agency location was in the Hollywood District in Northeast Portland. The agency began offering services in research and family therapy. Work began with the State of Oregon, HMOs, and other private insurance panels. The agency moved into its current location in the Roseway District in Northeast Portland in August 2001.

The agency is committed to community involvement by its four-year commitment to the Commission on Children, Families, and Community of Multnomah County. American Research Institute, Inc. has provided services to large organizations such as the Oregon Health Sciences University and St. Charles Medical Center and small organizations such as Oregon Voices United.  We have created an agency that we believe provides the best therapeutic outcomes for our clients.

Each family therapist is registered with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapist or The Oregon Board of Licensed Social Workers.
